Salaams! I'm Nadine El-Kabbout
I’m passionate about empowering Muslim minds and hearts by bringing an Islamic perspective to secular psychotherapy and reviving Islam’s legacy in Mental Health and Spiritual Wellness.
I want you to know that Islam and being Muslim is your powerful ally and anchor to living a fulfilling life, not a barrier.
So, why “Nafs” counselling
The main difference between Western Psychology and Islamic Psychology is the Nafs.
Linguistically, the term Nafs, denotes soul, the psyche, heart or mind.
Islamically, the term Nafs, is a science of human mental psychology.
The Nafs has these two forces: physical and spiritual.
The Physical force refers to the body, when you do not provide it with what it requires, then you feel physical pain. You are good at nourishing the physical with food, technology, comfort, etc.
The Spiritual force is the Nafs. But how do you nourish the spiritual? How are you serving that part of yourself?
Your spirit also has needs. Your spirit must also be fulfilled. Your spirit must also be satisfied. Your spirit’s food must also be sought, and its thirst must be quenched. The pain from the lack of spirit, lack of spiritual fulfilment, leads to your spiritual pain.
This is where I help you through an Islamic and Prophetic framework inspired by the Quran, Sunnah, Hadith and the traditions of the scholars, that address your needs while also incorporating modern Western interventions. The BEST of BOTH worlds!
I also use my unique ability to help you marry spiritual, mental, and emotional health with faith through other services: holistic healing therapy, coaching, parental education, and personal development.
With your commitment and the right mindset, you will feel more connected to yourself, Allah SWT, and others, which allows you to holistic healing, and live a more joyful and fulfilled life

Nafs Counselling’s Mission:
Mainstream counselling only considers the physical, mental, and social wellbeing, my Islamic counselling approach utilises the major tenets of integrative counselling but adds to them an added dimension: The relationship between you and your Creator.
Extensive research in counselling discovered that religion plays a crucial role in giving hope and confidence to individuals. It also has a far-reaching positive effect on a person’s mental health.
At Nafs counselling, I put every psychological tool, method, and technique through authentic Islamic filters.
You will feel at ease that nothing I say or do will go against the core tenants of our Islamic faith and the models I utilise are derived from the Quran, the Sunnah of the Prophet (peace be upon him), and the Islamic Science of the Self (i.e. Nafs), developed in purifying the heart for the purpose of reaching Allah.
I work with individuals and couples from all walks of life, and I consider the diversity and sectarian differences that exist among Muslims.
I am trained to work within the context of your cultural experiences and perspectives and with issues that are very specific to the lived realities of the diverse Muslim community.
You are supported to grow, heal, learn, and realise your best self. You are guided to find your own fitrah (natural disposition), to hear your inner voice, by clearing the veils that so easily cloud your heart, allowing the light of clarity to shine.
In addition, when problems arise, you often can’t resolve the problem with your mind or body, so you are compelled to open up your heart in search of understanding. I provide you support to reflect on your values and goals, strengthen your resilience and find new ways of coping with life’s challenges.
